Jia-Yu Yang

Jia-Yu Yang is a saxophonist and educator from Taipei, Taiwan. Known for her dynamic performances, Jia-Yu has been featured in several prominent concerts. She performed The Old Castle from Pictures at an Exhibition as a soloist with the UNCG Symphony Orchestra in 2016 and premiered Charles Rochester Young’s Alto Saxophone Concerto in Taiwan with the Fu Jen University Symphonic Band in 2018.

Jia-Yu earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2024. Her academic research focuses on Japanese music and practice methods, reflecting her deep interest in cross-cultural collaboration.

As an educator, Jia-Yu has taught saxophone at the university level and worked with students in a variety of settings. Her passion for teaching is rooted in her belief that music is a powerful means of expression and connection.

Beyond her musical career, Jia-Yu is passionate about mental health and well-being. In her personal life, she enjoys East Asian tea culture and photography, which play important roles in her creative and reflective practices.

Her article, "A Historical and Analytical Study of Akira Yuyama’s Divertimento for Marimba and Alto Saxophone," will be published in The Saxophone Symposium later this year (2024).

楊佳諭 個人簡介

台北人，曾就讀輔仁大學營養科學系及音樂系輔系，輔系期間主修薩克斯風，師事吳志桓博士。曾師事張文君老師、張家泓老師。2015年赴美至北卡羅萊納大學格林斯伯勒分校（University of North Carolina at Greensboro, NC）攻讀音樂碩士，師事 Steven Stusek博士。2017年取得碩士學位與音樂教育文憑。2019年在美國德州史蒂芬奧斯汀州立大學（Stephen F. Austin State University, TX）取得演奏文憑，師事Nathan Nabb博士。於2019年秋季開始在北卡羅萊納大學格林斯伯勒分校攻讀博士學位，並擔任助教。2024年取得音樂博士學位。 

旅美期間曾受邀與北卡羅萊納大學交響樂團演出展覽會之畫，擔任其中的中音薩克斯風獨奏。除個人演出外，也積極參與各項室內樂比賽及演出。在校期間曾組「阿波羅」薩克斯風四重奏（Apollo Saxophone Quartet），並擔任高音薩克斯風手。曾於2017年入圍北卡羅萊納大學音樂學生藝術家比賽（UNCG School of Music Student Artist Competition）決賽，為當時唯一入圍決賽的重奏。並與「阿波羅」薩克斯風四重奏首演多首學生作曲組的作品；其中包含於2017年在北美東南區學生作曲年會（SCI Region IV Student Conference）中首演Eli Bowman寫給薩克斯風四重奏的作品：In a Crimson Shroud 。在音樂教學方面，曾擔任北卡羅萊納大學社區藝術合作個別課系統（The Community Arts Collaborative Private Lessons Program） 的薩克斯風老師。
